Group History:
The Raukawa Trust Board has had a long-standing interest in education through its involvement in the provision of training programmes, since 1987 under the Maori Access schemes. In addition to these programmes, the Trust Board’s continued involvement in education is through the various initiatives including Te Wananga o Raukawa the Hokowhitu Programme (implemented in various intermediate and secondary schools) and the Alternative Education Programme in Cambridge.
Group Purpose:
The Raukawa Trust Board developed the 2002 Raukawa Education Strategy with the aim to implement strategies that promote the achievement of academic success for all Maori students living in the Raukawa tribal district.
RTB Strategic Outcome:
- increase Māori involvement in education at all levels
- increase the number and the proficiency of Māori language speakers
- strengthen whānau and hapū leadership on and beyond the marae
- improve the quality of delivery to Māori at all levels of education
- offer tribal education opportunities at all levels.
- develop partnerships between the Raukawa Trust Board and all relevant key stakeholders.

Initiatives:
PPP
- PPP is an agreement that focuses on communities within the RAUKAWA ROHE where participation in early childhood education is low, and to facilitate access to quality early childhood education services for non-participating children. Our facilitator for this programme is Moeroa Maea, she has been a valuable member of the Raukawa Trust Board since 2001 and has continued on to help families and their children into early childhood education.
RAUKAWA YOUNG LEADERS
Provide support for potential youth leaders and their families by:
- Exposing young leaders to other leaders within their communities.
- Promoting personal development with the emphasis on challenging our limits.
- Broadening horizons with the emphasis on leadership training.
- Encouraging and supporting families to support their children in education.
Who will benefit from this programme
Youth aged between 16-20 within the Raukawa rohe. Youth will be identified by the secondary schools in the district or will be self referred. Youth who are already achieving at a regional or national level in any area will be eligible with priority given to youth whose circumstances may mean that they require extra support. Raukawa youth who also meet the criteria will also be a priority.
Business Activity Descriptions:
The Raukawa Young Leaders have merged with the South Waikato Youth Council to facilitate community projects. Included in these projects is a Intertown Youth Tournament which will bring the youth of the South Waikato together in a fun filled sports day and various other competitions. This will run early 2008. The Amazing race – get to know your community and other youth, battle it out for great prizes and loads of fun. The Wild Food Festival – Waitangi Day 2008, Tokoroa down town park, named band, local acts and of corse wild food to tempt the taste buds. Keep you eye on this page for more details to come.
