About the Raukawa Pakiwaitara Project

Raukawa pakiwaitara are about telling our history, our stories, our way. Over the years many stories had been written about our Raukawa history and Raukawa Pakiwaitara is about transforming those stories into usable education resources for kōhanga reo, kura kaupapa, wharekura and particularly our whānau and uri members wanting to learn about their history. We tell our stories about, who is Raukawa and about his whakapapa and the importance of the Raukawa tree and the scent of the oil it gives off, as well as the spiritual house of Raukawa. We also tell stories specifically related to our hapū, such as the Big Eel at Taiparipūhā which contributes to strengthening our kete of local mātauranga. Currently we are in the process of completing and distributing a second series of stories targeted at an older audience.
