Kōmata Taiohi focuses on youth development through mentoring and empowering young people towards realising their potential. We deliver various programmes designed to create an environment where taiohi are able to grow, succeed and prosper. Kōmata Taiohi delivers five key initiatives as part of the South Waikato Youth Social Sector Trials, a cross-agency initiative with a community based approach to social services. These programmes include YWIS, CLUBS, Youth Hub, ETE and 88.3 FRESH FM.
A major priority has been to work collaboratively with key stakeholders and community groups to ensure everyone involved in the youth development sphere is communicating and align with each other in order to produce the best outcomes for the community. Other key goals for our team include furthering the development and social value of current projects and introducing new thinking to ensure the outcomes for our children, young people and families are being met. Kōmata Taiohi is made up of an experienced team of enthusiastic and creative mentors that enjoy making a positive difference in the community.
As part of the South Waikato Youth Social Sector Trials we are focussed on improving outcomes that reflect the needs of the community targeting mainly youth between the age of 5-18 years old. Our key goals include:
• reduce truancy • reduce offending, • reduce alcohol and other drug abuse, and • increase participation in education, employment and training
This plan was developed in consultation with advisory groups and stakeholders including key community leaders, whānau and young people.
